“Benchmarks addresses the intangible but critical issue of lacking a sense of belonging. International students significantly contribute to Canada’s economic and social landscape, yet public support for immigration is declining. Many of these students struggle with social isolation and culture shock, often finding it difficult to build meaningful connections or integrate into society without assimilating.
Benchmarks is a social initiative designed for all students, offering the opportunity to connect with the city and the community through three phases: 1) Creating shared memories by exploring the city together, 2) Capturing memories through the collaborative building of a bench, 3) Leaving a mark on the community as the bench is adopted by a local entity.”
