Ohm: Redefining Virtual Reality: Imagine typing without your keyboard.
“Every hand has 12 divisions or phalanges in its fingers, which are easily accessible with the thumb. Ohm is a sign language based on 26 microposes and multiple hand gestures that redefine how we can write, design, and play music in virtual reality.
Each phalange acts as a button that can evolve based on contexts and environments. Two rings with nine Time-of-Flight sensors and a Simple Vector Machine enabled this. These sensors track the movement of the thumb and allow for granular control and hand recognition for broader gesture recognition.
We currently type with a keyboard, but this sign language transposes the entire keyboard onto our hands. While using a music software, you no longer have to use a MIDI keyboard, but instead you can play the piano in your hands. And while designing in Fusion 360, your hand can evolve throughout different parts of the process, and your toolbar sits in your fingertips.
The project aims to redefine what is possible with virtual reality and steer away from bulky controllers and gloves that flood the market today.”
