SAND: The digital variable hourglass.
For many, especially those who struggle with ADHD and time blindness, this sensation is elusive. ADHD can both make it difficult to stay focused on one task (executive dysfunction), and make it difficult switch out of a task (hyper-fixation); SAND is designed to accommodate both.
Timers can be stressful objects. SAND isn’t. SAND is only as obtrusive as it needs to be. With subtle visual cues and a design that stays out of your way, it works around you — not the other way around.

About the Designer
Giancarlo Alessandro Martinez Magarelli, OCADU
Giancarlo Alessandro Martinez Magarelli is a student of Industrial Design at OCAD University working with textiles, wood, and electronics. He explores tools, toys, and instruments, leveraging play and oddity to shape his work. Previously, Giancarlo studied physics, but he instead found industrial design as the perfect intersection of physics’ mechanical reality, and art’s creative abstraction.
