Congratulations!

You have been nominated at the top of your class to compete at ACIDO Rocket. The Rocket application is a three-step process and final applications are DUE Friday, May 10, 2019 by midnight.

  1. Project Overview: An overview of your project including information about yourself as the designer, your thesis project and the prototype you have created. 

  2. Project Images: Upload images of your thesis to a personal project folder which will be emailed to you. This will include a Rocket poster, highlights from your creative process, a hero shot and a profile picture.

  3. Entry Payment: The entry fee to compete in ACIDO Rocket is $125 per student.

You will be provided with a 2′ x 4′ table at Rocket to display your prototype. If you plan on bringing a full-scale prototype that will not fit on the table, please make a note at the bottom of the form under “Special Requirements”

You will be required to transport your prototype to Rocket at AutoDesk Toronto (661 University Ave) on Friday, May 25, 2018 during your designated setup time that morning and remove it from the venue during event takedown following the Awards Ceremony on Saturday, May 26, 2018.

If you are awarded the Awards of Excellence (first, second or third place), you will have the opportunity to showcase your prototype as part of the Design Exchange exhibition “Exploring the Creative Process” *
The Design Exchange exhibition “Exploring the Creative Process” will take place the two weeks following Rocket. The winners of the Awards of Excellence will have their projects (Rocket poster, creative process poster, and prototype) on display. This will require addition transportation of your prototype to the Design Exchange at 234 Bay Street, Toronto and pickup after the exhibition has finished.


2. Project Images

Please review the image requirements below and upload them to your personal project folder (you will receive an link via email after you have completed the Project Overview). If you encounter problems accessing your folder, please contact hello@acidorocket.com. You should have four (4) files uploaded to your personal project folder to finish this step of the application.

 

PROJECT POSTER (Poster_Full Name)

  • File must be exactly 36.5″ tall by 20.5″ wide with a minimum resolution of 150 pixels/inch.

  • Within the 36.5” x 20.5”, create a 0.25” border with guide lines for your 36” x 20” printable area. This will provide a 0.25” “bleed” which will allow you to run artwork or background colours right to the edge of the page. Be sure all of your important text and images are within the 36” x 20” printable area. If your background is white or your image doesn’t touch the poster edge, simply leave the 0.25″ border space blank.

  • Use the top 10″ for your “hero shot” along with the project title and subtitle.

  • Use the rest of your poster to showcase your project. This may include but is not limited to your research, audience, pain points, benefits, features, etc. Whatever tells your story best! For inspiration, visit our “Past Winners” at acidorocket.com

  • Do NOT include your name or school anywhere on the poster as this will be used for competition judging.

  • This poster will be will be printed and presented at Rocket as part of your exhibit. It will also appear on the Rocket website.

  • Name your PDF file: Poster_Full Name (ie. Poster_Jane Smith.pdf)

 

 

CREATIVE PROCESS POSTER (Process_Full Name)

  • File must be exactly 36.5″ tall by 20.5″ wide with a minimum resolution of 150 pixels/inch.

  • Within the 36.5” x 20.5”, place a 0.25” border to create your 36” x 20” printable area.   • Please provide additional “highlights” from your creative process that are not already presented on your Project Poster. This may include but is not limited to journey maps, research infographics, storyboards, concept sketching, prototype development, etc. Choose what you are most proud of!

  • This full size poster will NOT be printed for the Rocket competition judging.

  • If awarded an Award of Excellence (first, second or third place), this poster will be printed and presented as part of the Design Exchange exhibition Exploring the Creative Process, to accompany your Project Poster and prototype.

  • Name your PDF file: Process_Full Name (ie. Process_Jane Smith.pdf)

 

THUMBNAIL (Thumbnail_Full Name)

  • File must be exactly 4.5” tall by 8” wide with a minimum resolution of 150 pixels/inch.

  • Please provide a thumbnail image or “hero shot” of your project. This is a single image that clearly shows your project’s benefits or would be used in its marketing campaign.

  • The thumbnail image will be used on the Rocket website and during the Rocket Awards Ceremony to identify your project. During the Awards Ceremony, the image will be projected on the screen as your accept your award. 

  • Name your JPEG file: Thumbnail_Full Name (ie. Thumbnail_Jane Smith.jpeg)

 

PROFILE (Profile_Full Name)

  • File must be exactly 5″ x 5″ with a minimum resolution of 150 pixels/inch.

  • Please provide a black and white profile picture of yourself

  • Your profile picture will be printed on a small card with your biography as part of your exhibit for the Friday open house and Saturday evening social (but removed for the competition judging).

  • Your profile picture will also appear on the Rocket website.

  • Name your JPEG file: Profile_Full Name (ie. Profile_Jane Smith.jpeg)

Schedule for Rocket

Below is the schedule for Rocket with key times students are asked to be present.

 

FRIDAY, MAY 24, 2019

10:00 AM – 12:00PM – Student Prototype Setup

12:00 PM – 8:00 PM – Rocket Open House

Students are not required to be present at the Open House. However, we do recommend that you leave business cards or other promotional material on your exhibit table.

 

SATURDAY, MAY 25, 2019

10:00 AM – 12:30 PM – Student Competition Judging

Each student will have 30 minutes with a pair of judges whose expertise best aligns with their work. (Your scheduled judging time will be emailed to you closer to the event.) We recommend students begin their time with a 5-min project pitch similar to what you would see on the television shows Dragon’s Den or Shark Tank. Breakfast pastries, coffee and tea will be provided. 

12:00 PM – 6:00 PM – Rocket Open House

12:30 PM – 3:30 PM – Competition Judging Continued 

The exhibition area will be closed to judges only as they deliberate on the student presentations and consider award winners.

6:00 PM – 10:00 PM – Evening Social 

Students are encouraged to invite friends and family. Tickets are available on Eventbrite. Drinks and appetizers will be provided.

8:00 PM – Awards Ceremony Starts

Students should be present so they can accept any awards on stage from the award sponsor. After the Awards Ceremony concludes, students can begin to pack up their projects and leave as they wish. You are welcome to take your printed poster (unless you have been selected to exhibit at the Design Exchange); however, please leave the wood frame.
